Whenever you censor your swears you are empowering a mysterious and possibly dangerous pantheon of deities. Don’t used minced oaths, people.

This whole series is really clever and awesome.

Dinosaur trackways uncovered in Canada suggest tyrannosaurs hunted in packs
The collective noun is a terror of tyrannosaurs: a pack of the prehistoric predators, moving and hunting in numbers, for prey that faced the fight of its life.
That tyrannosaurs might have hunted in groups has long been debated by dinosaur experts, but with so little to go on, the prospect has remained firmly in the realm of speculation.
But researchers in Canada now claim to have the strongest evidence yet that the ancient beasts did move around in packs.

…I never even considered that prehistoric creatures could have unique collective nouns before now. I want to meet the person who decided on “a terror of tyrannosaurs,” because that is some A+ work.

Anyone recognize the artist responsible for this? I can’t make out the signature, but the drawing is fun and deserves proper attribution.Edit: Peter succeeds where reverse image search fails. The artist is James Silvani, and his original post is here.

Welcome to Wes Anderson’s X-Men. Like so many Tumblrs, this one was created very quickly after a twitter thread exploded with jokes. But the only way it’s going to keep going is if people submit. We’ll take artwork, photoshop mashups, X-Men images with appropriate Anderson dialogue (or vice versa), crossover fic, fantasy casts… pretty much however you can combine the two ingredients.
So submit, submit, submit.

I think I know some people who’d be great at this sort of thing…

I finally got ahold of a battered copy of the Essential Godzilla trade from Marvel, and had to do a tribute (and in the process, decided to double up on the homage).Kind of surprised he never threw down with Fin Fang Foom or a full-size Giant Man in the course of the run, so I threw them in—even if they aren’t the era-appropriate versions. And the cover needs a Wasp for the full tribute to Avengers #4, so I figured Dragon Man is a good choice for Marvel’s smallest giant monster.
I might color this one eventually.

Kaijuly Day #??: Biollante vs. Hedorah. Maybe I just came up on too many early-90s environmental message cartoons as a kid, but I’ve always thought it’d be neat to see these two fight.

Monster Island benchwarmers. Varan, Gorosaurus, Manda and Baragon.Yeah, I completely ripped off that one Asia album cover by Roger Dean for Manda’s pose.

Varan is Bruce Lee from Game of Death

That’s an awesome comparison, but any similarity is accidental. He’s actually Mark Wahlberg, because my original plan was just to draw Varan and Gorosaurus in a riff on this poster.

So Son of Godzilla ends with the kinda sweet, kinda depressing image of Godzilla and Minilla hugging as they slowly freeze from an artificial blizzard. It’s sort of a nice moment, Godzilla finally showing something akin to affection for his dorky offspring (or adopted son or however that is explained), and the “they’ll hibernate till the weather warms up again” explanation sort of offsets the apparent hypothermic death of our heroes (in kind of a “hey, Duke came out of his coma” informed reassurance way that isn’t really supported by what you see on screen). But I figure a bit of snow shouldn’t really be a problem for giant creatures with nuclear reactors for hearts, one of which at least routinely hangs out in frigid parts of the deep ocean. So for my Son of Godzilla entry, I’m drawing Minilla just having fun on a snow day by emulating his old man.

But I would not give you false hope on this strange and mournful day, when the Mothra & child reunion is only a motion away…Way-dated Paul Simon references aside, Mothra never gets to stick around long after her kids show up, so I thought it would be nice to give them a little bonding time for a change.
